Senators Introduce Bipartisan Telehealth Bill

The Capitol and Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC.-2In a press release, U.S. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Angus King (I-Maine), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) announced the introduction of the Health Care Broadband Expansion During COVID-19 Act.  The new bipartisan bill directs $2 billion to help health care providers increase their broadband capacity and expand telehealth services during the current public health crisis.

FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel announced the release of the first episode of her podcast, Broadband Conversations, for 2020.  The podcast works to amplify the voices of women working on the front lines of technology, innovation, and media.   

 

To talk in detail about the challenges of making sure broadband reaches rural communities, the Commissioner spoke to Peggy Schaffer, Executive Director of Connect Maine Broadband Authority.

The Senate has passed the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act (S. 151) by a simple voice vote.  It now heads to the president, who is expected to sign it into law.   The Act passed the House earlier this month. See the Regulatory Mix dated 12/6/19

The California PUC has scheduled evidentiary hearings on December 5 and 6, 2019 regarding the proposed Sprint /T-Mobile transaction that is before the PUC.  The PUC is now seeking to determine what impact new agreements between Sprint, T-Mobile, and Dish Networks (DISH) will have on the proposed merger.
