arts_idahocapitolbuildingIdaho Governor Launches Broadband Infrastructure Improvement Effort

In a press release the Governor announced that he signed an executive order today, establishing the Idaho Broadband Task Force to improve connectivity and broadband infrastructure across Idaho.  “In a data-driven society, connectivity is imperative for a vital economy,” Governor Little said.  “Improved broadband infrastructure ensures both urban and rural Idaho will be connected and well-positioned to attract business and enhance our citizens’ quality of life.”  Governor Little directed the task force to come up with recommendations by November on ways the state can assist in furthering Idaho’s connectivity and speeds. Idaho Department of Commerce Director Tom Kealey will chair the task force.  The group will focus its efforts on mapping Idaho’s existing services and identifying gaps in Idaho’s broadband infrastructure. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Lt. Governor Lynn Rogers announced the completion of the first iteration of a broadband availability map for the State of Kansas.  “High speed broadband access is no longer a luxury, and unfortunately, there are still many areas throughout Kansas without adequate access to quality, affordable advanced broadband services,” Governor Kelly said.

The FCC announced it has settled with four different entities responsible for bombarding consumers nationwide with billions of unwanted and illegal robocalls pitching auto warranties, debt-relief services, home security systems, fake charities, and Google search results services.  The FTC accused them of violating the FTC Act and the agency’s Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), including its Do Not Call (DNC) provisions.

The Iowa Utilities Board (Board) has issued an Order clarifying that all alternative operator service (AOS) companies providing inmate calling services (ICS) must file a complete set of new tariffs.  In Iowa, ICS providers are registered as AOS companies.

Virgin Islands Granted Waiver to Conduct Wireless Emergency Alert Test

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau issued an order granting a limited waiver allowing Emergency Alert System (EAS) Participants and Participating Commercial Mobile Service (CMS) Providers to participate in a test to be conducted by the Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency.  The test will be conducted on March 14, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. Atlantic Standard Time.
