In a press release the Governor announced that he signed an executive order today, establishing the Idaho Broadband Task Force to improve connectivity and broadband infrastructure across Idaho.  “In a data-driven society, connectivity is imperative for a vital economy,” Governor Little said.  “Improved broadband infrastructure ensures both urban and rural Idaho will be connected and well-positioned to attract business and enhance our citizens’ quality of life.”  Governor Little directed the task force to come up with recommendations by November on ways the state can assist in furthering Idaho’s connectivity and speeds. Idaho Department of Commerce Director Tom Kealey will chair the task force.  The group will focus its efforts on mapping Idaho’s existing services and identifying gaps in Idaho’s broadband infrastructure. The mapping effort is the first step in developing a statewide broadband plan.  The task force plans to meet four times before October and provide a final report to the Governor in November.

The Florida PSC, in a news release, announced that starting on June 4, 2019, telephone customers in the 407/321 area code overlay region who request new service, an additional line, or in some cases, moving their service may be assigned the new 689 area code.  The 407/321 overlay region services Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties, as well as parts of Lake and Volusia Counties.  The portion of the 321 area code serving Brevard County is not affected, and will not receive the 689 overlay.

 

The following are key facts about the 689 area code overlay:

  • Telephone numbers, including current area code, will not change.
  • The price of a call, coverage area, or other rates and services will not change.
  • What is a local call now will remain a local call. Customers in the overlay region will continue to dial 10 digits for local calls within and between the overlay area codes, and 1+10 digits for long distance calls and operator-assisted calls.
  • Customers in Brevard County will continue to dial 7 digits for local calls within the 321 area code, 10 digits for local calls to other area codes, and 1+10 digits for long distance calls and operator-assisted calls.
  • Customers can still dial just three digits to reach 911, as well as 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711 or 811 if those are currently available in their community.

FTC-2-2FTC Announces Agenda for its Final Session of Hearings on Competition and Consumer Protection

In a recent press release the FTC announced the agenda for the 14th session of its Hearings Initiative. This session, at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska on June 12, 2019, will conclude the FTC’s Hearings on Competition and Consumer Protection in the 21st Century.  As previously announced, the Commission is accepting final comments on all prior Hearing topics through 11:59pm on June 30, 2019; final comments can be submitted here.
