Chairman Pai’s theme for the April meeting is “The Next Big Thing,” taken from a Vince Gill song. Vince GillChairman Pai explains that the first part of the agenda takes inspiration from the refrain that “[e]verybody's waiting for the next big thing, “which, for the Chairman’s purpose, is 5G, the “next big thing in wireless.”

Virginia Gen Assembly State-Capitol-3Virginia Enacts Bill Establishing Broadband Pilot Program

The Virginia legislature has passed a bill that requires the State Corporation Commission to establish pilot programs under which two electric companies can provide broadband capacity to nongovernmental Internet service providers in areas that are unserved by broadband.  The costs for the proposals of the utilities are each capped at $60 million annually.
