FCC Welcomes Efforts on Wireless Emergency Alert Geo-Targeting

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai issued a statement praising the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), a standards organization, for its efforts to improve the geographic accuracy of Wireless Emergency Alerts.

FCC Enhanced Wireless Emergency Alerts Available During COVID-19 Pandemic 

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) reminded authorized alert originators, including state and local governments, that the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system is available as a tool to provide life-saving information to the public during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

US Congress Robocalling Bill

House Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) reintroduced the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act (HR 946).  The bill would direct the FCC to enact strong consumer protections for authorized calls and empower the FCC with strong enforcement tools to reign in robocallers.  The legislation would also ensure that consumers have the ability to stop calls they’d previously authorized and require incoming calls to have authentic caller identification information before they are delivered to customers.
