Telecom regulatory fees and assessment obligations can be burdensome and, when handled incorrectly, may seriously diminish carrier finances. 911 service fees assessed on a statewide basis are fairly easy to calculate and remit, but it can be challenging in those jurisdictions where funding varies at the county or municipality level. USF fees change and there are states where those changes must be reflected in your tariffs.

Wholesale Customers and AT&T’s Proposed TDM-to-IP Transition Trial

As discussed in our blog dated 3/4/14 “AT&T Proposes TDM-to-IP Transition Trial,” AT&T has filed a proposal for a TDM to all-IP wire center trial in its Carbon Hill, AL, and Kings Point, FL, wire centers. Among other things, the proposal discusses in detail how wholesale customers will be affected by the trial. This includes the wholesale services and interconnection options that will be available and how the status quo ante on intercarrier compensation will be maintained.

FCC Issues $3.56 Million Holiday Forfeiture - Slamming & Cramming

Just before the holidays, the FCC issued a number of Notices of Apparent Liability For Forfeiture to wireline and wireless carriers. The most interesting was the $3.56 million fine against Consumer Telecom, Inc. for engaging in deceptive marketing practices, slamming, cramming, and violating the FCC’s truth-in-billing rules by failing to clearly and plainly describe charges on telephone bills.
