California Releases Scoping Memo in 510 Numbering Case

The Public Utilities Commission of California (PUC) has released a scoping memo for the application by the North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANPA) that requested relief for the 510 numbering plan area.  The scoping memo included some of the following issues within the scope of the proceeding: a 13-month schedule for implementing the area code overlay and; the industry has reached a consensus to implement an all-services distributed overlay plan as the recommended relief alternative for the 510 Numbering Plan Area.  The PUC intends to complete the proceeding within 18 months of the initiation of the proceeding, which was May 2017.

FCC Chairman Issues Statement on U.S. Communication Network Security Proposal

The FCC Chairman Ajit Pai released a statement on the security of U.S. communication networks and their supply chains.  Chairman Pai is proposing to address certain national security threats for example: barring the use of money from the FCC’s Universal Service Fund to purchase equipment or services from companies that pose national security threats to the communications network.  Chairman Pai expects to call this issue for a vote at the FCC’s April 17, 2018 meeting.

The following is an excerpt from the statement from Chairman Pai:

“The money in the Universal Service Fund comes from fees paid by the American people, and I believe that the FCC has the responsibility to ensure that this money is not spent on equipment or services that pose a threat to national security.  On April 17, I hope that my fellow Commissioners will join me in supporting this important proposal to help protect our national security.”

Kentucky CMRS Provider Annual Report Requirement

The Kentucky 911 Services Board is reminding CMRS providers to submit their annual 911 reports for 2017 to the 911 Services Board by April 30, 2018.  The report must contain the total number of active CMRS connections in each zip code within Kentucky served by the provider for each month during the year.  For the 2018 calendar year and beyond, all annual reports are due to be submitted to the Board by January 31.  Completed provider annual reports should be sent via email to: 911Services@ky.gov.
