US House Committee Announces Details for Twitter CEO Hearing

The House Energy and Commerce Committee announced details for next week’s hearing with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey on the company’s algorithms and content moderation.  The hearing will take place on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, and it is entitled, “Twitter: Transparency and Accountability.”

“I thank Mr. Dorsey for his willingness to testify and enlighten Congress and the American people about the issues facing Twitter. This hearing is about transparency, accountability, and action.  We want to take complex, opaque algorithms out of the dark and shed light on the role they play in consumers’ lives.  We want to better understand the decisions Twitter makes about content and the company’s process to prevent mistakes and undue bias.  The committee takes these issues seriously on behalf of consumers, and expects the same of Twitter,” said Chairman Greg Walden.

Maine Sets Pole Attachment Investigation

The Maine PUC has set the procedural schedule and scope of its “make ready” work investigation.  The Hearing Examiner determined that the scope of the investigation should be limited to a determination of "whether the replacement of utility poles is 'make ready' work under the PUC’s Rules, and, if so, if pole replacements are subject to the exemption regarding ‘non-commercial, non-competitive use consistent with the police power of [a] municipality.’”  Inteserra Briefing Service subscribers see the Briefing dated 8/20/18.
