Pennsylvania PUC Rejects Slamming Settlement

On February 6, 2014, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) rejected a settlement agreement between its independent Bureau of Investigation & Enforcement (I&E) and Pennsylvania Gas & Electric (PaG&E) over the company’s marketing practices. I&E alleged that an agent of PaG&E, along with an accomplice, switched 108 commercial electric and natural gas accounts without proper authorization. To make matters worse, PaG&E failed to self-report the violations to the Commission.

It's Always Christmas Where I Grew Up

When I was 10, my dad's dream of owning a place in the country came true when we moved to Christmas, FL. Yes, the name of the town is really Christmas, and it is located about 20 miles east of Orlando. It rarely snows, but festive nonetheless with Santa Claus and a decorated tree that remains year round. This time of year is bustling with activity as people come from miles around to the post office to have their holiday cards postmarked "Christmas, FL."The community was originally called Fort Christmas, named after the fort built around Christmas time in 1837 during the Seminole Indian War. A replica stands on a 25-acre park, a fun place to visit and picnic with the family.

On August 30th, the Illinois Attorney General filed a lawsuit against a telecommunications company for allegedly switching several consumers' long distance providers without the proper authorization, a practice commonly known as "slamming."

FCC Annual Access Filings - 6/21/13 Status Update

ILECs made their annual access filings with the FCC this week, to be effective July 2, 2013. While no changes were made to traffic sensitive rate elements, watch for an update to our Switched Access Study to reflect PICC revisions in certain CenturyLink, Frontier, and Verizon areas. Also, the Study will be updated to reflect an increase to the access order charge in CenturyLink (former Embarq) territory.
