FCC BDAC Streamlining Federal Siting Working Group

The FCC announced the newly appointed members of the Streamlining Federal Siting Working Group of the Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee (BDAC).  The BDAC's mission is to make recommendations for the FCC on how to accelerate the deployment of high-speed Internet access by reducing and/or removing regulatory barriers to infrastructure investment.  The Working Group will be chaired by Jonathan Adelstein, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Wireless Infrastructure Association.  The Vice Chair is Valerie Fast Horse, Information Technology Director, Coeur d’Alene Tribe.  Members of the working group include representatives of trade associations, communications companies, state and federal agencies, and local governments.

 

Montana Opts In to FirstNet

State number 12… Governor Steve Bullock announced that Montana will participate in the deployment of a nationwide, interoperable broadband network through a partnership with First Responder Network Authority and AT&T.  The Governor’s decision to opt-in to FirstNet comes after the Statewide Interoperability Governing Board sent the Governor a unanimous recommendation that Montana to participate in the nationwide network.  For more details see the FirstNet Opt-in Map  

 

Nebraska Deadline For Wireless Program Support

The Nebraska PSC established October 1, 2017, as the deadline for applications by wireless carriers seeking dedicated wireless program support.  The total amount of support allocated for the dedicated wireless program for 2017 is $4 million.  The PSC will publish notice of each application filed.  Protests or Formal Petitions of Intervention relevant to a particular application must be filed within 30 days of the date the application is filed.

 

New Call-to-actionWyoming Extends Comment Date On CenturyLink Deregulation

The PSC granted a 30-day extension to the comment/protest/intervention deadline in the proceeding to address a CenturyLink petition for further deregulation.  Anyone desiring to file a public comment, statement, intervention petition, protest, or request for a public hearing in this matter must file with the PSC in writing on or before August 28, 2017.  Comment should address CenturyLink’s petition for a determination that its basic residential and business telecommunications services provided throughout its Zone 2 and Zone 3 service areas are subject to effective competition and should be deregulated.  The affected exchanges are: Afton, Buffalo, Casper, Cheyenne, Cody, Dayton-Ranchester, Douglas, Evanston, Gillette, Glendo, Glenrock, Green River, Jackson, Kemmerer, Lake, Lander, Laramie, Lusk, Mammoth, Moran, Old Faithful, Powell, Rawlins, Riverton, Rock Springs, Sheridan, Story, Wheatland, and Wright.
