Today:  FCC Summary of 911 Certification Data for 2017, California Amends ROW Rules Regarding Wireless Telecom Facilities, Tennessee Small Cell Legislation   

 

FCC Releases Summary of 911 Certification Data for 2017

The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau (PSHSB) released the Summary of 911 Certification Data for 2017 . The Commission’s 911 certification rules apply to communications service providers that offer 911, E911 or NG911 capabilities such as call routing, automatic location information, and automatic number identification or their functional equivalent directly to a public safety answering point (PSAP), or that operate at least one central office (CO) that directly serves a PSAP. Under Commission rules, these covered entities are required to submit annual certifications attesting to implementation of specified measures, or alternative measures, to promote reliable 911 service. In this report, the PSHSB provides information on the 911 reliability measures certified to by these covered entities in 2017.

California Amends ROW Rules Regarding Wireless Telecom Facilities

The PUC of California amended its Right-of-Way (ROW) rules to apply to Wireless Telecommunications Facilities installed by CLECs.  By amending the rules, the PUC is providing CLECs with expanded access to public utility infrastructure when they install antennas and other wireless telecommunications facilities. Tennessee Small Cell Legislation

Tennessee has enacted a new law that specifies how authorities can regulate the collocation of small wireless facilities.  The Competitive Wireless Broadband Investment, Deployment, and Safety Act of 2018, among other things: provides for maximum rates and fees; prohibits an authority from requiring maintenance or repair obligations not generally applied to other Right of Way (ROW) users; specifies application processes and timeframes; including when the state is the ROW owner.  Inteserra Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing 5/2/18.
