FCC Lists of Where BDS to be Deemed Competitive

The FCC’s Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureau) proposes to publicly release lists of those counties where lower speed business data services will be deemed competitive, non-competitive, or grandfathered pursuant to the FCC’s Business Data Services Order (Order) released on April 28, 2017. TMI Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing dated 5/1/17.

FCC's O'Rielly Statement on DC Circuit Denial To Reconsider Net Neutrality Decision En Banc

In a statement issued by FCC Commissioner Michael O'Rielly regarding yesterday's DC Circuit denial, the Commissioner made his disagreement clear saying that:

“I disagreed with the Court’s 2016 split decision, and also disagree with the split decision not to reconsider the matter en banc. However, this issue is somewhat moot for now as the Commission is under new leadership and headed in a far better direction. Rehashing old history here makes little sense, except to highlight the questionable degree of deference the court afforded the Commission – which, in all fairness, should also apply in the event that any future Commission action on net neutrality is reviewed.”

White House Creates New American Technology Council

President Donald Trump signed an executive order 5/1/17 to establish a new American Technology Council (ATC), made up of 19 core members including the president, the vice president and among others; the secretaries of Commerce, Defense, and Homeland Security; the directors of National Intelligence, the OMB, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. The mission of the ATC is to “coordinate the vision, strategy, and direction for the federal government’s use of information technology and delivery of services through information technology.” See the full Presidential Executive Order here.
