Today's Regulatory Mix: Securing the Nation's Communication's Supply Chain, Washington Legislature Passes Broadband Bill

 

2020 FCC SealSecuring the Nation’s Communication’s Supply Chain 

Along with the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the FCC hosted a workshop on April 26 updating efforts to secure the nation’s communications supply chain.  Acting FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel commented that “As a nation, some of the newest threats we face, and perhaps some of the fastest growing, are those in our communications supply chains.”  Additionally, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency announced a new tool designed to help protect software vendors and customers defend against malicious code attacks.

 

 

 

 

Iowa Cap DomeWashington Legislature Passes Broadband Bill 

The state legislature has approved a bill removing restrictions preventing Public Utility Districts (PUDs) and others from offering broadband retail service; it now awaits the Governor’s signature.  To reach unserved and underserved areas of the state, HB 1336 would allow retail broadband service to be offered by all PUDs, port districts, towns, cities, and counties.  Currently, these PUDs are only able to offer unrestricted broadband on a wholesale basis through a dark fiber or open access network.
