Court Sets Briefing Schedule in Net Neutrality/Open Internet/Internet Freedom Appeal

The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has set the briefing schedule for appeals of the FCC’s Internet Freedom (aka Net Neutrality aka Open Internet) Order.

ITIF Releases Report Urging Congress to Allow Internet Paid Prioritization

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) has released a report advocating that Internet paid prioritization to be allowed.  “Policymakers should not write off a permissive prioritization regime in net neutrality legislation.  With simple rules, paid prioritization can make the Internet work much better for some services without making others worse off or harming the Internet’s characteristic openness.” - Doug Brake, ITIF director of broadband and spectrum policy and author of the report.

“While many applications, such as email, operate just fine over a neutral network, some real-time services like telehealth require priority to work reliably.”  “Given the wide diversity of applications that broadband networks must support, prioritization is the only economical way to radically improve performance.”  Mr. Brake went on to say, “With these simple rules, we can enable more intelligent broadband networks that better support real-time services while still preserving the fount of innovation that is the open Internet.”
