The_Mix_logo3.pngThe Regulatory Mix, TMI’s daily blog of telecom related regulatory activities, is a snapshot of PUC, FCC, legislative, and occasionally court issues that our regulatory monitoring team uncovers each day. Depending on their significance, some items may be the subject of a TMI Briefing.

Summer solstice 2016

Cybersecurity

The IT Alliance for Public Sector (ITAPS) published its State Cybersecurity Principals and Best Practices, a set of recommendations which establish best practices for cybersecurity.  ITAPS has created a broad set of cybersecurity principles for state governments to employ to better protect themselves from the increasing cyber threat.  To be most effective in enhancing cybersecurity, ITAPS says that state and local governments can:

  • Partner with Industry.
  • Adopt Industry-Recognized Security Standards.
  • Standardize Cloud Security.
  • Establish an Outcome Focused Governance Structure.
  • Actively Share Information.
  • Create a Culture of Awareness.

Maine

The PUC opened a rulemaking to implement the Legislature’s “Act to Increase Competition and Ensure a Robust Information and Telecommunications Market.”  The PUC seeks comment on proposed amendments to Chapter 201.  Among other things, the PUC proposes to add definitions; amend the rules to make the current rules applicable only to non-price cap ILECs.  The PUC also proposes to add new rules applicable only to price cap ILECs that would address information for and filing of quarterly reports and quality assurance and quality improvement program.
