US Senate Oversight Hearing

Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., chairman of the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, announced the committee will convene a hearing titled, “Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission,” at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. As part of the Committee’s oversight responsibilities, this hearing will examine policy issues before the Federal Communications Commission and review its ongoing activities and proceedings.  All five FCC Commissioners are expected to testify.

Colorado Net Neutrality Law

Colorado has enacted a law that prohibits an internet service provider (ISP) from receiving state broadband grants or high cost support if they engage in prohibited activity.  The prohibited activities include: (a) blocking lawful internet content; (b) engaging in paid prioritization of internet content; (c) throttling traffic; or (d) failure to disclose network management practices.  Also, ISPs that engage in this conduct could be forced to refund any money received in certain circumstances. The state Attorney General will work with the Board to develop guidance for consumers to file complaints with the FTC if an ISP engages in any practices that violate federal law regarding interference with the open internet.  Under the law, governmental entities are required to give preference to an ISP that certifies that it will not engage in any of the prohibited practices outlined in the law.
