California

          Rural Call Completion

The PUC has scheduled Public Participation Hearings in two separate proceedings.  Hearings to receive comments about Intrastate Rural Call Completion Issues, including 911 and access issues that have arisen following the Frontier-Verizon acquisition will be held on September 9th and 20th.  Click here for details.  The scope of this proceeding includes public safety issues related to 911 calls and loss of dial-tone for reasons other than service cancellation.  TMI Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing dated 5/15/15.

           LifeLine Program

In addition, hearings to receive comments about the California LifeLine Program and proposed changes are scheduled for September 6th, 14th, and 20th.  Click here for details.  Written comments may be submitted in advance of the hearings.  Phase II issues in this proceeding include reimbursement of nonrecurring charges for service connection/activation and service conversion charges; revisions to General Order 153; streamlining the ETC application process; and administrative efficiencies and outreach strategies.  TMI Briefing Service subscribers see Briefing dated 1/4/16.

 

Connecticut TRS

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to provide intrastate Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS), for speech and hearing impaired people who rely on the use of a Teletype device (TTY), a computer, or other mechanical adaptation to communicate via the telephone network with parties who do not require such a device.  Proposals are due on or before September 30, 2016.  Click here for details.
