TELECOM

California

Pursuant to a PUC decision, no later than November 8, 2013, all LECs must distribute the PUC-approved *Customer Advisory Brochure (PBX 9-1-1 Advisory) to current and prospective customers and provide links on their web pages to the PUC’s CalPhoneInfo website and the PBX 9-1-1 Advisory. This is intended to improve public safety in California by improving access to the Enhanced 9-1-1 Multi-line Telephone System (MLTS). See TMI Bulletin dated 7/24/13.

New Hampshire

The PUC issued an order clarifying that IP-Enabled service providers are not public utilities and denied Comcast’s motion for rehearing of its May 2013 Order on Remand (from the NH Supreme Court). While the PUC was considering Comcast’s motion, House Bill 542 was signed into law. The PUC found that “From and after the effective date of HB 542 [7/27/13], VoIP and IP-enabled services are not public utility services and providers of such services are not public utilities under RSA 362:2.” Watch for further details in a TMI Bulletin.
