U.S. Senate Unanimously Passes 988 Suicide Hotline Bill

The U.S. Senate has passed the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act of 2020, sending it to the House of Representatives for their potential approval.

The bill amends the Communications Act to designate 9-8-8 as the universal telephone number for the purpose of the national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline system.  The system would be operated through the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and through the Veterans Crisis Line.
