FCC Seeks Comment On Technology Transition Trials

The FCC’s Technology Transitions Policy Task Force seeks comment on several potential technology trials. The trials would gather data about ongoing transitions from copper to fiber, from wireline to wireless, and from TDM to IP.

The trials would focus on: (1) VoIP interconnection; (2) Next-Generation 911 (NG911) deployment; (3) replacing wireline voice and broadband services with wireless services; and (4) creating an “all-IP” wire center. The FCC also asks about other potential trial topics, including a new numbering database, copper retirement, and improving access to the Lifeline program.

Comments are due 45 days after publication in the Federal Register; reply comments are due 75 days after publication. Publication has not yet occurred.
